STL Statistics

Black children in the city of St. Louis account for more than 70% of children suffering from lead poisoning and are 2.4 times more likely than white children to test positive for lead in their blood.

St. Louis asthma-related emergency room visits are one and a half  times higher than statewide and a disproportionate share of those visits occur in Mid- and North County 

-St. Louis County Department of Health
Children ages 5 to 9 years experience the highest rate of ER visits due to asthma than all other groups and overall rate (30%), followed by ages 0 to 4 years (20.6%).

-Missouri Department  of Health and Senior Services
Lead paint was deemed dangerous and banned in 1978. 65% of Missouri homes were built before 1978. The entire city of St. Louis is considered a high-risk area for lead poisoning by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
